Here
you will find all the information you will need to know to get a battle up and
running. As well as the pilot file format for playing them. They are listed
below by platform
TIE
Fighter Battles can be found in the Mission Database and are very easy to
install In a Windows Environment. They are all in .ZIP format and as such a
zipping utility will need to be used. I recommend WinZip, which is very easy to
use.
PLEASE
NOTE!!
Most
of the battles created will require the Defender of the Empire add-on disk for
TIE Fighter as well as the asteroid bases patch. If this is the case it is
recommended that the add-on is purchased or a copy of the X-Wing Collectors
Edition is bought. This includes the Win95 version of the game.
Every
custom TIE Mission contains the following files.
Mission
Files (*.TIE)
Resource
Files (*.LFD)
Documents
(*.TXT, *.DOC)
This manual is only here to supply generic guidelines for installation of custom missions. If there are documents contained within the Zip file please read them first before commencing the installation of the battle.
This manual also assumes that you have selected the default install location for the game. This being C:\TIE. If this is not the case please replace it with the install location of your game.
All of the *.TIE files should be unzipped into the following directory
C:\TIE\MISSION
Once
all of the above has been done it is time to play the game. But first you must
create your pilot.
One thing to remember is to create a new pilot file for each custom battle that you fly. The Tactical Officer will disregard any files that have more than one battle contained within and if the pilot wishes to receive credit for it, they will have to fly it again.
One thing to bear in mind is that the pilot name is limited to 8 characters. If need be shorten the name of your pilot to include the battle number.
Once this has been done, choose the required difficulty level and start playing battle one.
Once
the battle has been completed send the pilot file to your immediate superior
officer. The pilot file will be found in the C:\TIE folder and have the file
extension of *.TFR. Your commanding officer will then complete the battle
submission form to make sure you are credited with flying the battle.
